Student Rights and Responsibilities

Student Rights:

1. You have the right to know what financial aid programs are available at Dyersburg State.
2. You have the right to know the criteria for continued eligibility in each program.
3. You have the right to know the criteria for determining that you are in good standing and maintaining satisfactory progress in your course study and how a student who has failed to make satisfactory progress may regain eligibility.
4. You have the right to know the means by which payment of financial aid will be made and the frequency of such payments.
5. You have the right to know the conditions and terms applicable to employment.
6. You have the right to know the terms of any loan received and a sample loan repayment schedule.
7. You have the right to appeal to the Financial Aid Appeals Committee any decisions made by the Director of Financial Aid.
   8.  You have the right to know the procedures for applying for aid, what forms are required, the eligibility requirements for each of the programs, the criteria for selecting recipients, and the criteria for determining the amount of your financial aid.
   9.  You have the right to know the costs of attending DSCC.
   10.  You have the right to know your school’s refund and repayment policy.
   11.  You have the right to know the priority date for submitting applications for each of the financial aid programs available.  This date is March 1.

Student Responsibilities:

1.  You must submit all applications accurately and on time.
2.  You must submit verifiable information. Misreporting, in most instances, is a violation of the law and is considered a criminal offense punishable by fine or imprisonment.
3.  You must furnish all additional documentation, verification, corrections, and/or new information requested by the Financial Aid Office, the U. S. Department of Education, or the agency to whom you submitted your application.
4.  You are responsible for reading and understanding all forms that you are asked to sign and for keeping copies of them.
5.  You must accept responsibility for fulfilling the obligations of all agreements that you sign.
6.  You must perform the work in a responsible manner that is agreed upon when you accept employment under the Federal Work-Study Program.
7.  You must be aware of and comply with the deadlines for application or reapplication for aid. Each student must reapply for aid each academic year.
8.  You are responsible for repaying any federal loans you receive.
9.  You are responsible for understanding the criteria for determining that you are in good standing, and for fulfilling the requirements for maintaining satisfactory progress.
10.  You are responsible for attending a Federal Direct Loan Entrance Interview and an Exit Interview prior to the end of the first semester of any new federal loan period.
11.  You are responsible for advising the Financial Aid Office of your attendance at any other postsecondary school.
12.  In order to be eligible for most federal aid programs, you must not owe a refund on a previously received grant or be in default on payments for federal loans in repayment status.
13.  You must notify the Financial Aid Office of any change of name, address, or social security number.
