Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) is thrilled to announce the appointment of Madelyn Woods, a Maury City native, as the new head coach of the DSCC Women’s Volleyball program. With an impressive history both as a player and a mentor, Madelyn brings over a decade of volleyball experience and a commitment to excellence that promises to cultivate success for DSCC student-athletes on and off the volleyball court.

Woods’ career in volleyball began on the courts of Crockett County High School, where she made a significant mark as the JV libero before advancing to the varsity team. Woods’ tenure on the varsity team was marked by exceptional leadership and skill, particularly in her junior and senior years, leading to multiple accolades. These included prestigious recognition on the 2018 and 2019 All-District 14AA 1st Team, the 2018 and 2019 District 14AA All-Tournament Team, the 2019 All-Region 7AA 1st Team, and the 2019 All-West Tennessee 1st Team.

Following a remarkable high school career, Woods’ continued her volleyball career at Bethel University, where she not only excelled on the court as the JV libero and a D.S. on varsity but also shined academically, graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in May 2024. Madelyn’s college career is adorned with numerous awards, including the 2021 Champions of Character award and recognition on the Daktronics NAIA Women’s Volleyball Scholar-Athlete Team in 2022 and 2023.

As the head coach of the DSCC Women’s Volleyball team, Coach Woods will focus on developing exceptional athletes and well-rounded individuals. Coach Woods aims to mentor each player to excel on and off the court, instilling accountability, self-discipline, and confidence. Through their leadership, the team is expected to foster a strong work ethic and strong team camaraderie.

“I am extremely honored to be named the head coach of the DSCC volleyball team. I hope to guide our players to excel in every aspect of their lives, leveraging the lessons learned from volleyball to instill a robust work ethic, self-discipline, and confidence,” said Coach Woods.

The addition of the Women’s Volleyball program reflects Dyersburg State’s commitment to providing a well-rounded collegiate experience for its students. The college believes that athletics is vital to developing leadership skills, teamwork, and community among student-athletes.

The arrival of Coach Woods marks a new era for DSCC Women’s Volleyball, filled with anticipation and high expectations. “We are excited to have Coach Woods join the Eagle family and lead our program into this new era,” stated Athletic Director Steve Cornelison.
