Dyersburg State Community College is excited to announce the appointment of Christopher Shawn Messer as the Interim Assistant Baseball Coach for the Eagles’ program. With a prosperous history in both coaching and athletics, Messer brings valuable experience to the program.
Chris Messer is a familiar face at Dyersburg State. He played college basketball and baseball for the Eagles during the 1994-95 and 1995-96 seasons. He continued his baseball career at the University of North Alabama and the University of Tennessee at Martin, amassing an impressive collegiate career.
With over 20 years of coaching experience at the high school level, Messer has established himself as a prominent figure in Tennessee baseball. Throughout his career, he has been recognized as a 6-time District Coach of the Year and a 2-time Sectional Coach of the Year. In 2019, his leadership and work ethic were honored when he was named the TBCA Class AA State Coach of the Year after guiding the Covington Chargers to an AA State Championship title as the Interim Head Coach.
“We are thrilled to have Coach Messer step in and assist us during this transition period. He brings a wealth of baseball knowledge to our program,” shared Steve Cornelison, Athletic Director.
Messer is married to Jill Messer, and they are proud parents of three sons: Paxton, Talon, and Cullen. His family-oriented values resonate with the culture of Dyersburg State, making him an ideal fit for the Eagles coaching staff.
