The Dyersburg Choral Society will present its annual Christmas concert on Thursday, December 5, at 7:30 p.m., at Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 2280 Parr Avenue in Dyersburg, Tennessee. The Choral Society has 40 members and is directed by Floyd Speck, with Carolyn Burnett as accompanist. Members are local as well as from areas of Missouri and Kentucky.
The Dyersburg State Choir will join the Choral Society for an evening of heartwarming holiday musical performances. The student choral group consists of scholarship students who perform frequently at Dyersburg State events. Brianna Rielly directs the DSCC Choir, which has Sarah Jean as an accompanist.
The musically diverse concert will primarily feature a mix of sacred and secular Christmas songs and holiday numbers, new and old, some with a new twist. Sarah Jean, Rachel Clark, Brandon Bennett, and Jillian Schaffer will be Choral Society soloists.
The Dyersburg State Choir is open to Dyersburg State students by audition and counts as college credit. Students interested should contact Brianna Rielly at breilly@dscc.edu or 901-475-3123.
This free concert is made possible by funding from the Arts Build Communities (ABC) grant program, which is coordinated with the Tennessee Arts Commission. The ABC grant supports art projects that broaden access to art experiences, address community quality of life issues through the arts, or enhance the sustainability of asset-based cultural enterprises.
The Choral Society is a voluntary organization open to all. The only requirements are a sincere desire to sing and regular attendance at rehearsals. Members pay a membership fee each semester. For further information, contact Floyd Speck at 731-676-3013 or Joan Latham at 731-445-9344.
