Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) held its annual DSCC Foundation board meeting and donor recognition dinner on July 30 at the Student Center on the Dyersburg campus. DSCC faculty, staff, board members, and their guests were in attendance for this special event.
President Scott Cook introduced Dr. Jeff Sisk, Executive Director of the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) Center for Workforce Development, who presented the Excellence in Philanthropy Chancellor’s Award to White & Associates Insurance (Larry and Kay White). White & Associates Insurance and Larry and Kay White have contributed to Dyersburg State since 1986; they have donated over $146,025 to the Annual Fund and the DSCC Foundation. Regent Kyle Spurgeon, who serves as Regent on the Board of Directors for the Tennessee Board of Regents, presented the Excellence in Philanthropy Regents’ Award to Dr. Karen A. Bowyer. Dr. Bowyer has contributed to the Dyersburg State’s Annual Fund since 1986 and has awarded more than 113 scholarships to deserving Dyersburg State students since 2008. Dr. Bowyer has contributed $197,419.38 as of February 2024.
In addition to the philanthropy awards, a brief business meeting followed the awards presentations. A slate of new DSCC Foundation Board members was presented and approved during the meeting, which included Mr. Troy Buttery, West Tennessee Community Market President/SVP at FirstBank; Jan Hensley, Mayor of the City of Covington; Carter Kirk, Dealer Principal of Kirk Nissan; and Tim Stokely, Regional President of INSOUTH Bank. The DSCC Foundation welcomes these new additions to our Board of Directors.

The DSCC Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established to promote and support DSCC’s mission. Earnings from the endowment funds assist DSCC and its students. Contributions to the DSCC Foundation are tax-deductible. Bequests, legacies, devices, transfers, or gifts to the DSCC Foundation or for its use are deductible for Federal estate and gift tax purposes if they meet the applicable provisions of Code sections 2055, 2106, and 2522.
