The Dyersburg State Community College Baseball team emerged victorious in the TCCAA Region VII Tournament with an impressive 27-2 win over Cleveland State Community College on Friday, securing their TCCAA Region VII victory. Led by standout player Kobe Benson, who drove in four runs on five hits, Dyersburg State highlighted a dominant performance on the field.
Dyersburg State Community College took an early lead in the top of the first inning, with multiple players contributing to the scoring. The team continued its momentum throughout the game, scoring five runs in the fifth and sixth innings, further solidifying its lead and eventual victory.
Pitcher Cole Cates played a crucial role in the team’s success, earning the win after a strong performance on the mound. The team’s offensive prowess was on full display, with players like Enrique Alvarez, Amir Streeter, and Edward Mateo delivering standout performances at the plate.
Head Coach Tyler Brown commended the team for their exceptional play and dedication throughout the tournament, expressing confidence in their ability to continue their winning streak in future competitions. “I am super proud of how hard and well the guys played at the tournament. We have had lots of adversity throughout this season, and the players proved to overcome all of that by winning the conference tournament. Fortunately, getting hot at the right time is key in this game, and that is what we have done. We are looking forward to playing a well-respected and talented Georgia Highlands team this upcoming week for a chance to get back to the World Series for the first time since 2017,” said Coach Brown.
With this impressive win, the Dyersburg State Community College Baseball team has solidified its position as a force to be reckoned with in the TCCAA Region VII Tournament. Dyersburg State will host the Appalachian Conference Series, which includes a three-game series beginning on Wednesday, May 15 at 2:00 p.m., with one game, and Thursday, May 16, with a doubleheader series beginning at 11:00 a.m. on the Dyersburg campus. The Dyersburg State Eagles (28-24) will face the Georgia Highlands Chargers (51-7).
