Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) proudly celebrated a prestigious milestone on February 27, when it was awarded College of the Year at the Seventh Annual Statewide Outstanding Achievement Recognition (SOAR) Awards in Nashville. This exceptional accolade highlights DSCC’s commitment to excellence in education and student success.
Dr. Scott Cook, President of Dyersburg State, accepted the College of the Year trophy from TBR Chancellor Flora W. Tydings on behalf of the entire institution. When asked what this award meant for DSCC, Dr. Scott Cook stated, “We are deeply honored to accept the College of the Year award from the College System of Tennessee. This recognition is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our faculty, staff, and students, who work tirelessly to foster student success and an empowering educational environment. In addition to the College of the Year award, two outstanding DSCC students, Mr. Nathaniel Burnett and Ms. Callie McDonald, were recognized for their remarkable academic achievements by being named members of the Phi Theta Kappa All-Tennessee Academic Team. This prestigious honor reflects their dedication to academic success, leadership, and community engagement.
The awards ceremony brought together students, faculty, staff, and supporters from across Tennessee to recognize outstanding achievements within Tennessee’s community and technical colleges.

Governor Bill Lee praised the finalists during his video address and reiterated the vital role of community colleges in fostering growth and opportunity.
