In a showcase of talent and determination, the Dyersburg State Lady Eagles softball team left its mark at the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) softball tournament, which was held in Columbia, Tennessee, starting on Saturday, May 4th, 2024. The Lady Eagles finished with a 37-17 record and TCCAA Region VII Softball Runner-Up.

Kicking off the tournament with a strong start, the Lady Eagles triumphed in their opening game, setting the stage for a challenging second-round match against Chattanooga State. Despite a tough 8-0 defeat, the Lady Eagles refused to bow out. Facing the threat of elimination, they rallied, securing a decisive 10-6 victory over Cleveland State.

Their momentum did not stop there. In the following rounds, the Lady Eagles showcased their prowess on the field, first with a 5-1 victory over Walters State, followed by a nail-biting 5-4 win against Volunteer State, securing their well-deserved spot in the championship game.

Head Coach George White shared, “I am super proud of these young ladies for the effort they gave in the Region Tournament. They competed at a high level all season. To win 37 games in a year is a phenomenal achievement, and to finish second in the region was exciting for the future of the softball program. They never gave up and just kept working for each other, which led to winning four games in the tourney over some very talented opponents.”

Although the championship title eluded them, the Dyersburg State Lady Eagles concluded the tournament with historic achievements, clinching the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Runner-Up trophy for the first time in program history. Their journey through the tournament exemplified athletic talent and a commendable display of resilience and sportsmanship, proudly representing Dyersburg State Community College.

The Lady Eagles made history at this tournament, as it was the first time in school history for the DSCC Softball team to earn the TCCAA Region VII Runner-Up title. This season has undoubtedly set a new benchmark for the Lady Eagles, paving the way for future success. The Dyersburg State community is immensely proud of their team’s accomplishments and looks forward to their continued success in the coming seasons.

President Scott Cook said, “We are all so proud of Coach White, Coach Follis, and the history-making softball team.  They have represented Dyersburg State well on and off the field, and we are delighted with their performance this year.  We are already excited to see them play again next season and to watch what they accomplish.”
