The Dyersburg State community is deeply saddened by the passing of Devin Carothers, Jr., a beloved member of the Men’s Basketball team. Devin, a sophomore student-athlete, passed away on Friday, August 30, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, love for the game, and sportsmanship.


Devin was a talented basketball player, friend, and teammate who brought positivity and energy to the court daily. His hard work and commitment to the team inspired all those around him, and his presence will be sorely missed by his coaches, teammates, and the entire Dyersburg State community.


“The loss of a student is never easy, but we want to support our men’s basketball team, coaches, students, faculty and staff as we grieve this loss. Our concern is with the family and friends of Devin Carothers, Jr.,” stated Dr. Scott Cook, DSCC President.


The Dyersburg State family extends their deepest sympathies to Devin’s loved ones during this difficult time. Counseling and support services are being provided to students, faculty, and staff affected by this tragic loss.


Head Coach Howard Dillard expressed his condolences, saying, “Devin was an exceptional young man with a bright future ahead of him. His passion for the game and his dedication to his teammates were truly admirable. Our hearts are heavy with this loss, and we will honor his memory both on and off the court.” A moment of silence will be held in Devin’s honor at the first Men’s Basketball home game.


“Please keep Devin’s family, friends, and teammates in your thoughts and prayers as we mourn the loss of a remarkable young man. Once funeral arrangements are made, we will share them with our Eagle Family. Again, today is a sad day for Eagle Nation,” said Dr. Amanda Walker, Vice President of External Affairs.
